There is a mechanic that sets up on a corner each morning in front of a nearby optometrist. His shop is on the sidewalk and repairs motorbikes as incidents come up. Yesterday, I walked by and noticed these cut gerbera daisy stems floating. I'm guessing someone's gerberas from Tết were starting to have wilting stems, so he cut them for solely the flower.
This morning, walking by I decided to see if they were still there. Instead he had only a few spare pieces of cockscomb floating (surely from a Tết disposal). I only noticed now there was a spoon. I photographed it, and as he noticed, he said, "No, it doesn't look right!" and picked up some broken terrazzo tile so the cockscomb flower can properly float without bobbing around. Attention to detail. I gave him two anthurium I had on hand from finishing an installation, and he fumbled for a little bit. He took it apart and wanted to give the flowers to me. I think I'll walk by and give him some more flowers from now on, because he is an ikebanist at heart.
